On Friday 3 November the festival celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of the two groups of Marvel heroes. And the 75th anniversary of the Italian comic loved all over the world

They’re all there, Avengers and X-Men. They parade on the red carpet and then accompany the spectators to the entrance of the hall. And their creator, Stan Lee (1922-2018), also appears. Friday 3 November Lucca Comics & Games celebrated sixty years since the release of the first issue (September 1963 in both cases) of the two famous superhero series. But also the 75 of Tex, one of the most well-known Italian comics in the world.

At the Teatro del Giglio the two groups of Marvel Superheroes – the Avengers who save the world in broad daylight and the X-Men, marginalized mutants who also fight for those who discriminate against them – were celebrated with the unveiling of two special covers designed by Simone Bianchi, author of important covers of the two cycles. With him CB Cebulski, editor in chief of Marvel who tried to find the formula for the decades-long success of characters such as Wolverine, Storm, Kitty Pryde, Captain America, Ironman, Wanda Maximoff… You don’t get a superhero without understanding human nature. What we are always interested in is the person behind the costume who doesn’t have to be perfect, but has all the flaws that make him more similar to us. The meeting, moderated by Marco Rizzo, was also attended by Douglas Wolk, who for the book Heroes, mutants, monsters and wonders (Utet) read and analyzed all the Marvel comics, Mara Famularo (signed by Fumettologica.it) and two of the Italian authors Marvel, Stefano Caselli and Elena Casagrande.

The great designers of Sergio Bonelli Editore celebrated Tex Willer’s 75th birthday: Alessandro Piccinelli and the historians Claudio Villa and Fabio Civitelli. With them Giorgio Giusfredi, screenwriter of Tex. Claudio Villa talked about the emotion of revisiting some iconic covers created by Galep for the anniversary. A tribute that also involved the other publications of the house, with Dampyr and Zagor redesigned by various authors in the same poses as Tex covers of the past. Villa also spoke about the return of the Black Tiger in a new story: he had to be a dark, ambiguous character, capable of disguising himself. For the costume I created a cross between Batman and Zorro, a villain in which all my childhood memories converged. Fabio Civitelli’s memory returned to two of the last stories written by Gianluigi Bonelli, who created Tex in 1948 with Aurelio Galleppini: You could see that he loved writing and had a great vision, the ability to already see the drawn page.
