According to the updated forecast held by the Jerusalem Municipality, from tomorrow afternoon until Thursday, winter weather is expected in Jerusalem, accompanied by strong winds, low temperatures, precipitation and even the possibility of snow.
On Thursday morning, there is a fear of ice on the roads and sidewalks. The Jerusalem Municipality has been prepared and ready. The municipal emergency headquarters, led by the municipality’s emergency and security department, has completed its deployment.
Tomorrow morning, the Central Air Force will also open, as well as regional headquarters in the districts themselves. Over the next two days, situation assessments will be carried out, headed by the mayor, Moshe Leon, and the director general of the municipality, Itzik Larry, and the activities of the entire system will be coordinated.

The Education Administration will send a representative to each district in the city to update and guide the educational institutions. The municipality’s sanitation department is preparing to operate about 60 vehicles that will be scattered throughout the city for the purpose of clearing the snow and snow removal spoons for the route of the light rail.
Employees of the SFA department in the municipality are ready to disperse salt using diffusers, and for this purpose they will also use arrow carts for the efficient guidance of vehicles when performing the task. In addition, pruning and crane crews will be activated as needed.
The 106 hotline will be reinforced with hotlines in all languages, for the purpose of responding to inquiries and handling notifications of hazards. The Welfare Department will operate the community emergency systems and hold preliminary tours to locate and treat street children.
The Jerusalem Municipality works in coordination and cooperation with all emergency services, with the Electric Company and the Gihon Corporation, whose representatives will be in the municipality’s office. Information on changes in public transportation arrangements and schools will be communicated through the media and the municipality’s website.

Due to the expected winter weather, the municipality recommends that residents avoid activities that pose a safety hazard and maintain vigilance and caution when driving and on foot on the roads. City residents are advised to check the integrity of the heating systems and especially those that require ventilation. It is recommended to open the hot water tap slightly to prevent water from freezing in the pipes, which causes them to crack.
The municipality calls on residents to make sure that there is waterproofing in roofs and openings, including windows and shutters, and to perform cleaning and opening of water drainage chambers in yards and gutters on roofs. The municipality advises residents to be careful and avoid staying under sheds, pergolas, barracks or temporary structures, for fear of collapsing.
