Adifha has put out to tender for 11.5 million euros, the works of the new Reus-Bellissens station, a strategic project for the development of the local railway network in the province of Tarragona, framed in the ‘Transformem Rodalies’ plan of Catalonia.

The action will improve the multimodality of the town, connecting it with the nearby network of Camp de Tarragona and the regional services of Catalonia, thus meeting the current and future demands of travelers. The project includes a new urban underpass, which will connect the central axis of the Bellissens University Campus with the bus station.
The new station, located in the southeast of the city between the stations of Reus and Vila-seca, is configured as a modern terminal, integrated in a square with a marked urban character, next to an area of recent construction, in which the Bellissens University Campus of the Universidad Rovira i Virgili, the Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital, the Tecnoparc and the Roseta Mauri Institute, among others.
The services of the lines RT1 (Tarragona-Reus) and regional lines R14 (Barcelona-Lrida) and R15 (Barcelona – Ribarroja de Ebro) will circulate through the new station. According to the demand studies carried out by Adif, it is estimated that the new station will register a transit of about 1,400 daily passengers, which could reach up to 3,500 over a thirty-year horizon.
New urban passage
Reus-Bellissens will be made up of differentiated architectural modules, responding to the operating requirements and the needs of travelers, protected under a canopy. Have two side platforms 220 meters long and five meters wide, equipped with waiting spaces and accessible routes covered by canopies for ninety meters.
The underpass that connects the platforms will be accessible, with elevators and fixed stairs. The project also includes a pedestrian approach and access area and an urban space that will promote stay and social interaction, connecting with urban areas reserved for vehicle stops, taxis, buses and new models of sustainable mobility.
Next to the new station, a new urban crossing will be built, which will be financed by the Reus City Council in accordance with the agreement established with Adif. This passage connects the central axis of the Bellissens University Campus with Jaume Vidal i Alcover street and the bus station, now separated by the railway line. In this way, the centrality of the new railway station in the urban fabric and its permeability will be enhanced. The urbanization around the pass will reinforce integration into the city and the routes accessible from both sides of the city. In fact, the urban passage is integrated with the station and the city through a stepped and accessible plaza, which generates comfortable and safe spaces, aligned with gender urban planning standards.
