Klarna Signs Collective Agreement, Avoids Strike

On Friday evening, Klarna announced that it has signed a collective agreement with the Union and Sweden’s Engineers, effectively calling off the strike that was scheduled to occur. This agreement comes after six months of negotiations, during which both unions had threatened to go on strike.

Negotiations were resumed with the help of mediators from the Mediation Institute, ultimately leading to a positive outcome for all parties involved. Klarna’s co-founder and CEO, Sebastian Siemiatkowski, expressed his confidence in the agreement, stating that it will contribute to strengthening the Swedish model from within.

The union also expressed satisfaction with the reached agreement, highlighting the importance of giving their members influence in the workplace. Sen Kanner, chairman of the Union’s club at Klarna, stated that with the collective agreement, union members now have the opportunity to influence their everyday experiences at work. The union looks forward to working together with management to further improve Klarna as a workplace.

Sweden’s Engineers also emphasized the significance of the agreement for the industry as a whole. Camilla Frankelius, head of negotiations at Sveriges Ingenjörer, praised Klarna’s decision as a demonstration of social responsibility and a model for other strong Swedish tech companies.
