The electrician from Bogotá is one of a total of 17 skilled workers from Colombia who came to Germany last fall at the invitation of the Bochum real estate group Vonovia. Although the weather makes a strong and not always friendly impression on the young Colombian and the people here may lack South American lightness, the 36-year-old feels comfortable in Berlin, where he works for Vonovia’s technical service. “Life is very safe and Germany is very beautiful.”
He has already explored many cities with the Deutschlandticket. “Dresden is very beautiful, Cologne too. I will go to Munich or Cologne with my family,” says Zambrano about the upcoming visit from his mother and nephew. “You have to get to know the snow.” What does he miss most 9,000 kilometers away from home? Colombian cuisine. “There are some Colombian cafes and restaurants in Berlin, but they are a little more expensive.”
