German police announced this Sunday, November 5, that they had put an end to the hostage-taking on the tarmac of Hamburg airport by arresting the man who had been holding his 4-year-old daughter in a car there since the previous evening and who did not put up any “resistance”.
“The hostage situation is over, the man left the car with his daughter and was arrested without resistance by the police,” local police said on X (formerly Twitter), specifying that the child “appears in good health”.

This hostage taking, linked to a conflict with the mother over custody of the little girl, began Saturday evening around 8 p.m. The man, aged 35, held his 4-year-old daughter for around 18 hours in a car parked at the foot of a Turkish Airlines airliner, after forcing entry to the airport, firing shots. He wanted to try to leave for Turkey with his daughter, whom he had previously taken from his wife’s home.

Air traffic suspended until further notice

The German police conducted long negotiations all night and part of the day this Sunday to convince the father, armed and suspected of possessing explosives, to surrender. Air traffic at Hamburg Airport was suspended on Saturday evening and was to remain suspended on Sunday until further notice. The police had mobilized psychologists and teams of negotiators on site, in addition to intervention units.
