This Thursday the world joyfully received “the latest song” by The Beatles, titled “Now and Then” and which includes John Lennon’s voice recreated with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The song tells the story of a lost love and was reconstructed from a demo from the 1970s recorded by Lennon on the piano. “I know it’s true, it’s all because of you. / And if I achieve it, it is thanks to you. / And from time to time, if we have to start over, we will know for sure that I love you,” can be heard as part of the lyrics.
According to some critics, the theme is closer to those of John Lennon in the moments in which he ventured as a soloist and they have come to compare them with productions like “Jealous Guy.”
The premiere has revolutionized not only the fans of the legendary band, but also the most relevant media outlets in the world have dedicated important headlines to highlight this news.
The BBC, for example, revealed that the original demo circulated pirated for years and, although they had tried to reconstruct the song on several occasions, it was not until last year that Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr managed to finish it. George Harrison, the fourth member of the group, appears in the melody through some guitar tunes that he recorded in 1995.
For its part, Rolling Stone magazine stated that “hearing John and Paul sing the first chorus together, while singing the line ‘Once in a while I miss you,’ is intensely powerful.”
Likewise, The New York Times pop music critic Jon Pareles argued that “for anyone who grew up with The Beatles or came to love them, there is an additional pang when listening to the band’s latest work together.”
However, he clarified that “it cannot be compared to the music that the four Beatles made together in the 1960s. What it does is remind listeners of a synergy, musical and personal, that has now been lost forever.”
“Now and Then” comes as a breath of air for those nostalgic for the band that stopped playing together 53 years ago and is now available on streaming services.
Starting today, Friday, November 3, copies on CD, vinyl and cassette will also be available and a music video directed by Peter Jackson will be released that will contain never-before-seen images of the band, one of the best in the world now and always.
