More than a million people were deprived of a mobile network after the passage of storm Ciaran, the Minister in charge of Digital announced on Thursday. Traveling in Finistère this Monday, Jean-Noël Barrot wanted to be reassuring without being able to give a precise timetable. The mobile network should be restored “in the coming days” in areas affected by the storm, mainly in the Brittany region, the minister said.

“We can hope in the coming days, first to restore mobile communications, and in the coming weeks, where the infrastructure has been most degraded, to restore fixed communications. This is the top priority,” he said. The restoration of communications “will be made possible by very strong mobilization” of the four commercial operators (Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Free), he added while Orange confirmed “strengthening” its staff involved in the restoration of networks in the most affected territories.

Storm Ciaran left at least three dead and 47 injured, and 126,000 homes remained without electricity on Monday after another storm, Domingos, passed over the western coast this weekend, which left at least eight injured.

Enedis specifies that it has mobilized 4,400 technicians, service providers and employees “who came as reinforcements from other regions”, in order to “carry out the last heavy repair projects carried out in difficult conditions as quickly as possible”. One of its employees, aged around forty, died, electrocuted on Saturday evening during an intervention in Finistère.
