“I am humiliated.” The deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis, Raquel Garrido, was sanctioned by the office of the LFI parliamentary group after her comments criticizing the functioning of the party, and Jean-Luc Mélenchon. This is what France Insoumise announced this Tuesday in a press release. The elected official, summoned on Monday, was heard for more than an hour before a decision was rendered.

From now on, Raquel Garrido will “no longer be able to be a speaker on behalf of the group in parliamentary work for a period of 4 months”, announces the LFI office at the National Assembly. Concretely, the MP will no longer have the right to speak on behalf of the group during Questions to the Government sessions. The office accuses him “not of defending his ideas, but of an accumulation of repeated actions and comments which harm the proper collective functioning of the group or its members”.

Without going into detail, the press release cites “the dissemination of false information in the press about the group or its members”, “the questioning and ad hominem denigration of several members of the group” as well as “the taking of part of employees of the parliamentary group”. Tensions have continued to increase in recent weeks between the rebellious elected official and certain LFI figures, starting with Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Raquel Garrido notably estimated that the former presidential candidate had “only harmed” the movement. “I am a rebel who criticizes Mélenchon, do I have the right? ”, she had again assumed in recent days with The Obs.

“The LFI management only split, split and split again”

A few hours after the announcement of her sanction, the deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis reacted in a long post on “. “Even Adrien Quatennens, author of domestic violence, had the right to long deliberations within the group”, denounces the elected official who emphasizes that the deputy from the North had received the same duration of sanction as her, i.e. 4 months .

“I am ostracized. For what ? Because I held firm on the principle of non-cumulative mandates (…), because I dared to denounce the masculinist communication of Adrien Quatennens orchestrated by Sophia Chikirou and supported by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, because I I defended the unity of Nupes, the union movement, and LFI during the great pension movement while the LFI leadership was only splitting, splitting and splitting again,” she assures.

“The Office proclaimed itself a disciplinary body to try – how immaturity – to resolve political disagreements through coercive measures. (…) I am ashamed to see this evolution of the political project to which I have devoted 30 years of my life,” she criticizes before promising to get back up. “I received so many signs of affection from the activists of the rebellious base. I will hold on. You can count on me,” she finishes.
