Tonight in New York Hospital, Andre Leon Tally passed away from a heart attack. Tally is considered a fashion icon and a very close colleague of the iconic “Vogue” editor Anna Wintour, and for over 40 years worked in the fashion world, between the roles he also served as the fashion editor at the reputed Vogue America magazine and later as head of the creative team.

In addition to being the fashion editor he was a fashion icon in his own right. What set him apart were his silk robes and fur hats, and for a time even served as a stylist for the Obama family home. He was considered a colorful and colorful figure as an activist in the LGBT community. Tally also appeared on television as a judge in a modeling competition and even in a guest role in the series “Sex and the City”.

Tally made quite a few headlines when he shared the reason for his conflict with Anna Wintour. Tally was offended by his co-worker claiming he had been discriminated against in his work, “I do not think she would ever let anyone interfere with her white privilege” (he wrote this in his autobiography “Rye Trenches”). Wintour apologized to the workers but Tally refused to forgive. His phrase “I do not live for fashion, I live for beauty and style. Transient fashion, style remains,” he said as a paraphrase of Coco Chanel’s famous quote became a seller.
