In its quest to prepare a quality succession, the Beninese Athletics Federation, through the women in sport project financed by the French embassy, initiated several young girls from Benin colleges, for the benefit of whom, competitions were held. been organized. Thus, after the departmental phase of said competitions, the federation chaired by Viérin Dégon instructed, in line with the project, the national technical direction which held a national phase of these competitions on Saturday November 4, 2023, at the Charles de Gaulle stadium in Porto -New. There were 96 young girls from Benin colleges (best in their departments after the competitions organized as part of the “Women’s Sport” project) to take part in this national stage. These girls, invited by the Beninese Athletics Federation, tested themselves to know the best of the best. In the exercise, it was the girls representing Atacora who had the upper hand in the ranking with 5 medals (2 in Gold, 1 in silver and 2 in bronze). Borgou followed with five medals (1 silver and 4 bronze). On the other hand, the other departments, namely Ouémé, Atlantique, Collines and Littoral, did not manage to win any medals.

Present at this competition, the Secretary General of the federation, Achille Aïhou stressed that “great hopes stood out from the crowd”. “We saw children with good running skills, children in good spirits,” he said while explaining that, if the prerequisites are there, we have the foundation to build. He did not fail to reassure that the best in this competition will be recorded, followed and supported. Zéphirin Noukenou, National Technical Director, was delighted with the performances of the young girls. “These girls showed us that they practice athletics in colleges in the departments at an already appreciable level,” he said in recognition of the work that is being done by the coaches trained as part of this project. Recognizing that everything is not yet perfect, the DTN believes that with the preparation camps and training of trainers, “the imperfections will be corrected”. This is also the wish of Matchidou Fatima, women’s sports coach in the commune of Banikoara who, while thanking the French Embassy and the Ministry of Sports for this project, suggested “I noticed today that there are certain things that I have to correct at the level of my athletes such as maintaining the level of running, the momentum in terms of jumps. As for the young girls, it is a pleasure to have taken part in such a competition.
