With the aim of facilitating her transfer to the Bambino Gesú hospital in Rome, the Government of Italy has granted nationality to Indi Gregory, the 8-month-old British girl who suffers from a serious illness and whose doctors, backed by the justice system of her country, intend to disconnect from life support despite their parents’ opposition.

On Monday, November 6, a few hours before the deadline that the London (England) justice system had given to the hospital’s doctors expired. Queen Medical Center of Nottingham to disconnect Indi, the Italian Council of Ministers processed his nationality urgently.

This resolution has made it possible to postpone the disconnection of the baby, who suffers from a mitochondrial disease, and has filled her parents, Claire Staniforth and Dean Gregory, with hope. Both had filed an appeal to avoid the death sentence for her daughter and to be able to transfer her to the hospital in the Italian capital, from where they had offered to treat her.
