Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed his ministry and top officials to reduce the number of daytime running lights by 50 percent as a solution to the power crisis.
The Minister said that with the country currently facing a massive power crisis, it is the responsibility of all to use electricity sparingly.
Amaraweera said both state and private companies should take such action.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced that a one-hour power cut will be implemented today, but in some areas the power outage is reported to have lasted for about two hours.
