Blockmarket – The Simpsons recently premiered Treehouse of Horror 34, a special Halloween episode of the longest-running animated series on TV. In the episode, the cartoon mocked the NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) market.

NFT is the acronym for Non-Fungible Tokens, and represents the digital ownership of a good that cannot be easily replaced by another (without fungibility). For example, ownership of real estate or physical artwork can be registered as an NFT.

However, NFTs became quite popular as digital items such as virtual cards or in-game items during the last bull cycle. After great hype in 2021, the sector declined exceptionally.

In the episode, Bart Simpson is transformed into a living NFT. After that, Marge struggles to get him out of the virtual world. Check out some excerpts from the episode:

As can be seen, the series mocked the lack of usefulness of NFTs:

“Marge: Ahh! My baby became an app?

-Homer: Oh, no. Apps do something. It became an NFT.”

Several references to NFTs can be found in the episode, such as the works of Bored Ape Yacht Club and digital artist Beeple, who sold an NFT work for US$69 million during the market’s peak.

This was not the first time that The Simpsons featured references to the cryptocurrency market. In a certain episode, it is possible to see the price on TV being quoted at an infinite price (BTC = ∞).
