Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Southern India

A tropical depression over the Southeast and adjoining Middle East Arabian Sea regions is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to parts of Southern India. The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain and gusty winds in several districts.

The city of Chennai is likely to experience moderate rain with thunder and lightning, as the sky remains cloudy. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to reach 31 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, Bhavani recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with 12 cm of rain in 24 hours. In contrast, Chennai saw only 1 cm of rain. Strong cyclone winds are also blowing at a speed of 55 kmph in the Middle East and adjoining South East Arabian Sea.

As a result, the Chennai Meteorological Department has cautioned fishermen not to venture into these areas from today until the 11th. Several districts in Southern India are expected to see heavy rain today, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tuticorin, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirupur, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.

Residents in these areas are advised to take precautions and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. The authorities are also urging people to avoid unnecessary travel and to stay indoors during the heavy rain and strong winds.
