Benjamin Netanyahu sets his conditions. The Israeli Prime Minister said on Tuesday that he ruled out any ceasefire or delivery of fuel to the Gaza Strip as long as the 241 hostages held there by Hamas are not released. “No entry of gasoline, no (Palestinian) workers into Israel and no cease-fire without the release of our hostages,” said Benjamin Netanyahu in a speech.

The Gaza Strip, governed by Hamas, is being shelled relentlessly by Israel in retaliation for an unprecedented attack carried out on October 7 on Israeli soil by the Islamist movement. Since that date, according to Israeli authorities, at least 1,400 people have died on the Israeli side, the majority of them civilians killed on October 7 during the deadliest attack in Israeli history. That day, 241 people were also kidnapped by Hamas and taken to Gaza, according to Israeli authorities.

Israel is imposing a “complete siege” on the small territory where 2.4 million Palestinians are now trying to survive deprived of basic goods and under bombardments that have already killed more than 10,300 people, according to the Hamas health ministry.

Shortages of gasoline, the delivery of which Israel has banned since the start of the siege, have led to the shutdown of several vital services, including hospitals.
