Germany touches on a few words on the presidential election of November 16. “I encourage all stakeholders in the electoral process to resolve differences through dialogue and in a peaceful manner with a view to building trust,” said German Ambassador Michael Häusler yesterday as part of the celebration of German National Day, at Villa Berlin, in Ambohimiandra.

The German diplomat thus reaffirms the position he already defended with the group of ambassadors working in the country a few days ago. “I also express the hope that the elections will be credible and transparent, inclusive and peaceful and so that the results can be recognized by all,” he continues.

“It is up to the Malagasy people to choose their president,” he continued, while insisting that there is neither interference nor indifference in this German position. Germany remains one of Madagascar’s partners in the steps taken for the organization of elections and for the development of the country and has already contributed to the common fund to finance the electoral process. A response from the collegial government which accused the international community of interfering after the latter recalled the importance of respecting the Constitution, freedoms of expression, association and assembly, in a press release dated 16 last October.

With the group of ambassadors working in the country, Germany encourages dialogue efforts that could lead to concrete measures that can restore confidence in the electoral process and enable successful elections.
