REPORT – Dominique and Valérie-Anne, former patients, support patients at this Bordeaux institute throughout their care journey. An innovative approach.
Patients in white coats? It is indeed this garment, an attribute of caregivers, that Dominique and Valérie-Anne have each just put on this mid-morning at the Bergonié Cancer Institute. But the identification badge worn on the pocket tells a completely different story: “Patient-partner” it is indicated there. The expression seems very mysterious as this activity is little known to the public. Yet it is so important! Dominique Chort and Valérie-Anne Moniot share an experience of illness: the first was struck by prostate cancer, the second by breast cancer. They both transformed this ordeal into expertise serving the community, alongside other patients, in cooperation with hospital staff.
