As early as 1850, the PEG company was fraying tea towels, towels and rags to recover the fiber and remake other products: “the DNA of our activity was already recycling”, indicates Manon Comalada Féron, the general director and heir. . From the 1950s, in the Dénestanville factory (near Dieppe, opened in 1968), with the arrival of polyester on the market, the company became the world leader in technical fibers for extreme cold. in clothing for large marches and armies. With globalization and the opening of China in the 1990s, “my father, who became the boss, launched polyester-based duvets and pillows for mass retail brands. The market is exploding and we are opening our Varneville-Bretteville site (near Rouen),” continues the manager.

Since then, with 140 employees including 110 on permanent contracts, the Colas Normandie brand has sold two million pillows and one and a half million duvets in France and in Europe, always with innovation and environmental protection in mind. , as shown in the Eco-Peg range, “the down jacket for the home, insulation made from 100% recycled and recyclable mineral water bottles” or even the anti-bedbug duvets and pillows that are torn off.

A 100% natural oil based on geranium

In the space of five years, 11% of French homes were infested by bedbugs. The fight is on against this parasite: wash laundry at over 60°C or freeze it, steam the surfaces and corners, resort to the use of insecticides or call on specialized companies. For Colas Normandie, we must also opt for prevention, “because our core business remains environmental protection”.

“Seven years ago, we launched an anti-mite, anti-mosquito and anti-bedbug range based on a geraniol surface treatment on our duvets and pillows. It is a colorless, 100% vegetable and natural essential oil from geranium which has no neurotoxic action on users, pregnant women and fetuses. It is made in France in partnership with the Breyner laboratory in Lyon. It is preventive and not curative. The Green Home treatment is unique, because it is the only non-chemical one,” explains Manon Comalada Féron. And it’s a hit, because over the past month sales have doubled, “we are overwhelmed, stocks are exhausted and we have to find new production slots.”

Carbon wire to restrict mobile waves

And Colas Normandie doesn’t stop there. In addition to its two annual collections for mass distribution, the hotel industry and specialized stores, the use of materials such as merino from Arles or linen from Normandy, “we are on a return to nature with wool, the eiderdown and the short tip, but above all in innovation with a flat bolster with shape memory, duvets with the smell of bed linen thanks to microcapsules or even with carbon thread to restrict the waves of nearby mobiles . Our desire is to show our French know-how, to stay on our territory. Not even afraid of the Chinese,” warns the general director.
