When they last more than three weeks, certain symptoms appearing in the head and neck fully justify consulting a doctor.
Nasal passages, tongue, throat, salivary glands, vocal cords… head and neck cancers spare no location. With around 15,000 new cases diagnosed each year in France, they rise to fourth place among the most common cancers in men. Rarer in women, their incidence has however tended to increase in recent years, due to smoking.
Unlike other types of cancers, ENT cancers can be cured in 9 out of 10 cases if they are treated early. However, at present, around 70% of cases are diagnosed too late, which considerably darkens the prognosis. A little more than half of these patients detected too late die within 5 years. But to obtain an early diagnosis, you still need to know the signs that should lead you to consult, without falling into hypochondria.
