BRASILIA (Reuters) – The Senate plenary began on Wednesday night the process of voting, in the first round, on the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the tax reform which, among other points, provides for the unification of taxes and a “brakes” the growth of the tax burden.

As it is a PEC, the text needs to garner the favorable vote of at least 49 senators in the two rounds of voting. The government expects the proposal to be approved, but with a tight score of approximately 50 votes.

Senators focus on the main text of the PEC, which can still be changed by amendments, highlighted to be voted on separately.

The matter was approved in July in the Chamber, but will have to return to the House for a new analysis if approved by the Senate due to the changes promoted by the senators.

There are in Congress, however, those who defend a sliced enactment of the PEC, leaving the points of disagreement for another parallel proposal.
