The cost of the basic family basket closed at $784 in October 2023. That is, it had an increase of $27.5 compared to the same month in 2022, according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC).
According to the INEC, the average household income in October of this year was 840 dollars, which represents 107.14% of the cost of the basic family basket.
The value of the basic family basket in the Sierra region is 795.32 dollars. On the Coast the price is $772.71. According to INEC, Quito is the most expensive city with a basic basket of 821.66 dollars. Cuenca follows, with 814.33 dollars and Guayaquil with 801.04 dollars.
Food was the category with the most impact on annual inflation in October, with 1.22%. Behind are restaurants and hotels with 0.2%. And, in third place, goods and services with 0.16%.
In the last survey released by INEC this Wednesday, November 8, 2023, annual inflation was 1.93%. That is, 2.09% less than in 2022.
When analyzing the structure of the monthly price variation by region, it can be seen that the cities of the Coast (-0.24%) showed lower monthly variations than the cities of the Sierra (-0.10%).
Similarly, the cities of the Coast (2.60%) presented higher annual variations than those of the Sierra (1.19%).
