“Portraits of memory”: Faces that accompany the families of the disappeared in Peru

When a family member disappears, their loved ones usually undertake a search with their photograph to try to find their whereabouts or obtain news about that person, but that image has much more meaning: it is a way to keep them close. However, for many Peruvian families affected by violence and disappearance, this does not happen. It is in this need that “Memory Portraits” arises, a way to make up for the absence of photographs, through the preparation of drawings of the faces of missing people based on oral testimonies and memories of their relatives.
