This is the thirtieth reform on the subject since 1980: promised during the presidential campaign, the bill to control immigration and improve integration has been examined since Monday, November 6 in the Senate. The elected representatives of the Palais du Luxembourg therefore began to debate and vote on the twenty-seven articles of the text.
Presented by the government as “ balance ”, aiming at both the “ simplification » procedures and “ firmness » concerning illegal immigration, this text is criticized on both the right and the left and is debated within the government majority. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who is leading the project, is therefore looking for compromises to have it adopted.
