Almost 80% of images with sleeping babies show unsafe positions
In total, they studied 631 packages of diapers for babies weighing less than 5 kilos, from 11 European countries, including France, Spain, Italy and Germany. In 49% of them There was a picture of a baby sleeping and of those 311 packages, 79% showed a baby sleeping in a position or situation contrary to recommendations to avoid sudden infant death: many images showed babies sleeping on their stomach or side, on a soft surface or surrounded by objects. The results were published in The Journal of Pediatrics.
Although the cause of sudden infant death has not been determined, there are recommendations to prevent this syndrome such as those of the American Academy of Pediatricsmade since the 1990s and which has managed to reduce this type of death by 80%.
Among the recommendations stated is placing the baby face up to sleep, Lay him on a hard surface, without many objects, stuffed animals or sheets, do not sleep with other people, sleep in a bedroom where the temperature is not very high, between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius and without tobacco smoke.

And while the incidence of sudden infant death is low in Europe (in France around 300 babies die from this syndrome each year), researchers warn that these images may incorrectly influence parents. In addition to the research, there has been a request for manufacturers to take action on the matter.
