Netflix Review: The Killer – A Return to Classic Fincher Thriller

by time news

David Fincher is back on Netflix with his latest film, The Killer, taking on familiar territory for the acclaimed director. The movie marks a return to classic Fincher, teaming up once again with Seven writer Andrew Kevin Walker to deliver a stylish and slick revenge thriller.

Based on a graphic novel series, The Killer follows an unnamed assassin, played by Michael Fassbender, as he embarks on an international manhunt against his employers after a hit goes wrong. However, the movie may not offer the twisty and surprising revenge thriller that audiences might expect. Split into six chapters, the majority of the film sees the assassin facing off against those who have wronged him, in a formulaic and unsurprising manner.

One standout moment in the film, however, comes with an incredible fight scene between The Killer and The Brute, a sequence that is both brutal and painful to watch. Despite the superb craft of the film, the predictability of the plot may cause it to lack the same lasting impact as some of Fincher’s other work.

One aspect of the film that remains in its favor is Fassbender’s lead performance, with the actor perfectly portraying the icy and detached assassin battling his inner contradictions. While the movie may not offer many surprises, it’s still worth a watch, showcasing Fincher’s impeccable craft and delivering a gripping revenge thriller.

The Killer is available to watch now on Netflix.
