Robotics never ceases to amaze us with its constant advances on numerous fronts. In terms of miniaturization, the winged robot model shown in the photograph is very notable. It’s a tiny robot, as you can see. Due to its size and shape, it falls into the category of insectoid robots. This robot model is giving very good results, even in specialties as far removed from what can be expected from a robot as biology. An example of the latter is the research carried out by the team of James Lynch and Jeff Gau, from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and Nick Gravish, from the University of California in San Diego. Using them as anatomical models of the flying insects whose biomechanics they have wanted to investigate, these scientists have obtained very important clues about evolutionary steps that led to the appearance of two different flight techniques in animals from the distant past.
