Protests in Panama: Bishops express deep pain over deaths

The Panamanian Episcopal Conference (CEP) has expressed its “deep pain” for the deaths that occurred during the recent protests that occurred in the country, while calling for paths to “peace and social justice.”

On November 7, two protesters They lost their lives when they were attacked while blocking a road. Days before, another person died when it was run over in an area where road blockades were being carried out.

For almost a month, groups of protesters have expressed their rejection of the Ley 406, approved by the National Assembly on October 20. This rule allows a concession contract to a foreign company for various activities related to the exploitation of metallic minerals, especially copper.
