This is a rare image that several residents filmed this Saturday. A lion escaped from the circus where he was sheltered this Saturday in Italy. Kimba – that’s his name – “wandered” through the streets of Ladispoli, a town of 40,000 inhabitants one hour from Rome, for almost six hours after which he was caught. Faced with the threat, the authorities called on residents to remain confined to their homes.

The Republic retraced the animal’s journey. He escaped around 4 p.m. from the circus. “Circus staff are carrying out capture operations, immediately alerted the mayor of Ladispoli on Facebook. Please be very careful and avoid leaving your home. »Several videos were published on social networks.

The feline’s escape required significant research resources. In addition to the circus team, dozens of law enforcement agents rushed to this rather special mission, aided by a helicopter armed with an infrared sight to locate him. We had to wait until 10:30 p.m. to capture the feline, hit by a dart.

A sabotage in cause?

The investigation will have to determine how the lion was able to find itself free. According to La Repubblica, the circus managers could be prosecuted for lack of supervision. The boss of the circus sees it as an act of malevolence: “We are victims of sabotage. We found the cage open and someone saw three people fleeing on foot,” he told the newspaper.

For animal rights activists, this event is a sign. A demonstration was organized in front of the circus, reports La Repubblica. The mayor of the town, still on Facebook, also commented: “I hope that this episode can raise some awareness, and that we can finally put an end to animal exploitation in circuses. » He also clarified that he had not authorized the presence of a circus with lions in the city, but that he did not have the power to prevent it.
