Forecast for the period 10 – 16 November 2023

Dragomir Atanasov, agrometeorologist at NIMH

After the deepening autumn drought, the agrometeorological conditions from the beginning of November underwent a positive change. The registered rainfall during the past period in many places in the Polish regions between 20-40 l/m2, improved the soil moisture in the arable layer and the conditions for the initial development of autumn crops.

On most days of the next seven-day period, precipitation and a gradual improvement of soil moisture reserves at depth are again forecast. During the period, germination and formation of 1-2 leaves will be observed for winter cereals sown in October – agrostations Karnobat, Silistra, Targovishte, Tsarev Brod, Novachene, Lyubimets, Haskovo and Pazardzhik. Vegetation processes in wheat and barley will proceed at a moderate pace with predicted average day-night temperatures close to climatic norms.

At the end of the period, relatively dry weather is predicted and more suitable conditions for carrying out phytosanitary activities on permanent plantations, surveying the autumn crops for the presence and harmful activity of the common vole and the larvae of the common wheat runner.

The period is suitable for planting fruit trees.
