Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid attacks Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich of the far-right Religious Zionism party for continuing to fund ultra-Orthodox schools and settler priorities in the West Bank at the expense of the war effort.

“While IDF soldiers risk their lives, Finance Minister Smotrich undermines the war effort, national resilience and Israeli society” – wrote Lapid on social media X – Smotrich “is only interested in his” electoral base, he uses ” citizens’ money for small political interests”. The post comes after broadcaster Kan revealed Smotrich’s intention to transfer millions of shekels to settler priorities in the West Bank and the network of ultra-Orthodox schools, despite opposition from ministry staff.
