It is a common phrase that cyclists are of a different nature, but the case we narrate confirms it. Julian Mertens suffered an accident at the end of May, was put in a coma and today he is riding again and plans to compete in 2024.

In a Bingoal statement, Mertens told his story. “Everything stopped at the moment of the accident, when I hit a vehicle when I lost control of the bike.” It is worth mentioning that the vehicle was a tractor.

“I fractured nine ribs, my spine in two places, my collarbone, my jaw, I lost teeth, the back of my neck and I even lost the feeling in my left leg. That’s why they induced a coma for several days,” said the 26-year-old climber.

“I gradually started moving, learned to walk again, and had another spinal operation in July,” he continued. “Being an athlete helped me and little by little I was able to run or swim. But I just got on the bike in October and, although I was afraid, then I felt the pleasure of riding,” he revealed.

“I want to give time to time, I still don’t know what my future will be. My first goal is to be in the concentrations with the team, even if later I have to ride alone until I have the level to go in a group,” she concluded.

Additionally, we want to report MARCA HORA, to the site ViewMe, and that another Latin American multimedia, which also steals the material, becomes evident when it publishes on the same day as us news that was actually from previous days and we decided to delay. If the incident is repeated, we will hold a public protest.
