In a crackdown on individuals violating firecracker norms, Chennai Police has registered cases against several people for bursting firecrackers beyond the permitted time and for using high-noise fireworks.
The Supreme Court had previously issued orders allowing the bursting of firecrackers only between 6 am and 7 am and between 7 pm and 8 pm on the occasion of Diwali. However, despite these regulations, numerous individuals were found to be in violation of the set norms.
As a result, Chennai Police has taken action against 118 people for disregarding the restrictions and causing disturbances with noisy firecrackers. This move comes as part of efforts to enforce the regulations and maintain public safety and peace during the festive season.
