Watan Today: The President of the University of Petra, Professor Dr. Rami Abdel Rahim, in the presence of Professor Dr. Adnan Badran, the University’s Supreme Advisor and its Board of Trustees, sponsored the opening ceremony of the eleventh international conference of the Arab Association for Computing in Architecture, Arts and Design (ASCAAD-2023), at the University of Petra.
The conference was devoted to examining the areas of artificial intelligence and computer applications in architecture, design, and urban planning.
Abdul Rahim stressed the importance of keeping up with technological developments and applications of artificial intelligence, and employing them in the design industry, which contributes to stimulating creative thinking among students, and finding innovative alternatives that contribute to professional development and competition in the labor markets locally, regionally, and globally.
The Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, Professor Dr. Faisal Abu Al-Rub, also stressed the importance of the role played by the University of Petra in supporting research activities, seminars, and holding scientific conferences.
The Conference Chairman, Dean of the College of Architecture and Design, Dr. Amer Al-Joukhadar, pointed out that the conference constitutes an international scientific gathering of researchers, architects, and designers, to enhance scientific exchange, and shed light on the latest developments in the fields of computing in architecture, arts, and design, adding that the conference title “Computing, Culture, and Context” contributes to Enriching the discussion about technology and using it to integrate with the urban, architectural and cultural fabric.
The President of the ASCAAD Association, Professor Dr. Sherif Abdel Mohsen, said: Holding the conference annually at the international level contributes to creating an opportunity for professors, engineers, students and researchers in the field of design, using computers to exchange information, and highlighting the latest developments in digital design technology in architecture, design, planning and science. Building.
It is noteworthy that previous editions of the conference were held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Lebanon.
The conference extended over two days, during which 58 peer-reviewed scientific papers were presented and discussed, prepared by 165 researchers from 20 countries: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Egypt, Italy, America, the Netherlands, Australia, Britain, Canada, Turkey, Brazil, Cyprus, and India. , New Zealand, Romania, China, Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Denmark, and 75 professors and specialists from 24 countries from around the world participated in the arbitration of scientific papers.
The conference sessions were divided into 12 sessions distributed over six main themes: heritage and digital culture, smart cities and buildings, informational and parametric systems for buildings, digital media and generative arts, virtual worlds and multi-cosmic environments, performance-based design and the digitization of green architecture.
In addition to hosting international speakers from the United States of America to talk about the future of architectural design within the technological revolution the world is witnessing. On the sidelines of the conference, workshops were held in the field of design using artificial intelligence applications, presented by researchers and designers from Italy and Egypt.
At the end of the opening session, the members of the scientific and organizational committees, and the parties supporting the conference, were honored.
