The Arcópoli association has called a demonstration at Puerta del Sol, where the regional government headquarters is located, to denounce the “serious setback” in LGTBI rights proposed by Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s PP.

“Our rights are not touched”, this is what the people who have attended this call chant. According to the organizers, at least 1,000 people have gathered at Puerta del Sol to fight for LGTBI rights.

This protest occurs after the PP registered in the Madrid Assembly, for urgent processing, the modification of the Law on Gender Identity and Expression and the Law on Comprehensive Protection against LGTBIphobia.

According to the ‘popular’, the modification of these two regulations, in force since 2016, seeks to “provide greater clarity and legal certainty” and eliminate aspects such as “the reversal of the burden of proof.” The texts registered by the PP contemplate the repeal of several articles, among which those of an educational nature stand out, one of Vox’s main demands.

Specifically, they contemplate the repeal of the recognition of freely expressed gender identity, as well as the free development of their personality and being treated in accordance with their gender identity.

Regarding the Comprehensive Protection Law against LGTBIphobia, the creation of the LGTBI Council of the Community of Madrid is repealed and the contribution of Madrid institutions and public powers to the visibility of LGTBI people in Madrid is eliminated.

All sections corresponding to educational plans and the promotion of non-discrimination are also eliminated, as well as the review of educational curricula. In addition, it will allow, among other things, the return of conversion therapies in Madrid.
