This is the largest law enforcement order in ten years. The Ministry of the Interior has just spent 78 million euros to equip itself with grenades. Some of the models ordered have never been used before.

On November 10, 2022, the State published a unique call for tenders, which Political revealed exclusively. At that time, he planned to put in 38 million euros for eight different batches of grenades.

A year later, as shown the results published in the official bulletin of public procurement announcements (BOAMP), 78 million euros were ultimately disbursed. This is four times more than in 2018, when the Ministry of the Interior released 17 million for 660,000 grenades and 740,000 means of propulsion.

Here is what was purchased, as described in the agreement:

1. Law enforcement grenades and means of delay propulsion and igniter caps;
2. Means of propulsion with 56 millimeter delay at a range of 200 meters;
3. Means of propulsion with exercise delay;
4. 40 millimeter grenade cartridge;
5. 56 millimeter grenade cartridges with sound and tear gas effects at a range of 80 meters;
6. 40 millimeter grenade cartridges with sound effect;
7. Sound effect hand grenade;
8. 40 millimeter law enforcement grenades.

Won by the French company Nobel Sport, the first batch alone represents more than half of the order (nearly 40 million euros). Among the winning companies also include Alsetex and Rivolier. If certain models such as “sound effect and tear gas” grenades are already well known to law enforcement and demonstrators, others are less so.

For example, the “40 millimeter sound effect grenade cartridges” of the sixth batch, which should be propelled by launcher, and not by hand as is usually the case.

In any case, the police will be armed to keep the peace.
