One Woman Killed, Another Injured in Double Shooting in North Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A woman was killed and another was hurt in a double shooting late Monday afternoon in north Charlotte, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. The incident occurred on West Sugar Creek Road at Interstate 85.

Investigators responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault at about 5 p.m. MEDIC earlier reported that two people were shot, with one sustaining life-threatening injuries and the other suffering minor injuries.

Police found two people shot on Reagan Drive, one of them in the street. Major Torri Tellis of the CMPD stated that his team is relying on tips from witnesses and will also be reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to help identify and apprehend the suspect.

Video from Chopper 9 SkyZoom revealed that Reagan Drive near West Sugar Creek Road was blocked off by investigators. Evidence markers were found at the nearby Shell gas station and on Reagan Drive near Octapharma Plasma, as well as a large police presence at the Garden Inn and Suites motel. While CMPD did not confirm if the scenes were connected, they assured that all leads will be followed.

Major Tellis emphasized the importance of community involvement in reporting any suspicious activity, stating, “It takes more than just the police coming out here to do patrols or direct patrolling through here. But it also takes those calls from the citizens if they see something that’s actually going on.”

This story is ongoing, and updates will be provided on wsoctv.com as more information becomes available.
