Father in Custody over Suspected Sexual Crimes and Assault, Mother Free but Suspected of Failing to Disclose Crime

A family’s tranquil villa was raided in early October by a task force, setting off a chain of events that have rattled the community. The father of the three children is now in custody, suspected of serious sexual crimes against children and assault. Meanwhile, the mother has been set free but is still suspected of failing to disclose a crime.

Following the raid, the three children were taken into care by social services with the support of LVU and are now living in their respective family homes.

After a detention hearing, prosecutor Jonas Fjellström made the decision that the father would undergo a “small mental examination”. According to the protocol from The Forensic Medicine Agency, there are suspicions that the father suffered from a serious mental disorder during the act and at the time of the investigation.

However, the chief medical officer at the Medical Examiner’s Office, who signed the documents, does not recommend that the father undergo a major forensic psychiatric examination. Jimmy Blomqvist Larsson, press officer at the Swedish Forensic Agency, stated that while this outcome is not very common, it is also not unusual. “The person is suspected of suffering from a serious mental disorder, but if the doctor is to recommend a major examination, the doctor should consider that there is a need for care,” he said.

Prosecutor Jonas Fjällström declined to comment further on the statement from the Forensic Agency, citing confidentiality. However, he did mention that he may request that the father undergo a major mental examination after a possible trial. “If, for example, he continues to claim that there is no child pornographic material on his mobile phones or that the previous conviction for violence against children was just a fabrication by individual police officers who wanted to pressure him for money – then it may become relevant,” said Fjellström.
