Juan María Nin will be the next president of the Círculo de Empresarios, replacing Manuel Pérez-Sala, who is finishing his term. This has been decided by the board of directors of the entities, which will make the appointment effective on March 19, 2024.
The Círculo de Empresarios defined Nin as a “deep expert in the world of business management, finance, energy and international economic policy” and a professional with experience in both the public and private sectors. He recalled that the center of his professional career has been the banking sector, being one of the “architects” of the merger processes of the most important banks and savings banks in the country.
This lawyer and economist from the University of Deusto and Master in Laws from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, has been vice president and CEO of La Caixa, Criteria and Fundación Caixa (June 2007-July 2014), CEO of Banco Sabadell (2002-2007) and general director of Banco Santander until 2002. He has also been involved in the energy business as a member of the boards of directors of Cepsa, Repsol and Gas Natural, among other companies.
Until recently he was a member of the Board of Directors of Société Generale and is currently president of Itínere Infraestructuras, Hábitat, Morabanc and ITP Aero. He is also Operating Partner of Corsair Capital, member of the Advisory Council of the General Mutuality of the Lawyers, of the Global Advisory Board of Service Now and President of the European Advisory Board of Metyis.
Since he was part of the team of the Minister for Relations with the European Communities (1978-1980) that negotiated Spain’s accession to the Common Market, he has been a firm supporter of the European project and, as former president of the Spain-USA Council Foundation, an “expert in bilateral relations between both countries.” Likewise, he is a regular attendee at Bilderberg, IMF, Greenmantle and other international forums.
He is also a regular commentator in the media and author of the book ‘For rational growth’ about the 2008 crisis and other publications. He has been on the Board of Trustees of the Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao Foundation since December 2022 and has been a trustee of the Esade Business School Foundation, the Governing Council of the University of Deusto, the Board of Directors of Deusto Business School and the Governing Council. of APD.
