The Israeli army launched a “targeted” intervention overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday against Hamas members in Al-Shifa hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip. “The Israeli Defense Forces are conducting a precision operation in a specific area of the hospital,” the army said in a statement in English.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip indicated that it had been notified by the Israeli army of its intention to carry out an operation in this hospital at the heart of the conflict between Hamas and the Israeli army.

For several days, Al-Shifa has been operating in slow motion, deprived of electricity and captured by the IDF, which ensures that the place serves as a headquarters for Hamas terrorists. This Tuesday evening, the spokesperson for the National Security Council of the White House also affirmed that Hamas as well as Islamic Jihad used “a command and control center” in this hospital.

According to statements by the Israeli army on X (formerly Twitter), the ground operation was launched “based on intelligence information (…). The IDF forces include medical and Arabic-speaking teams, who have undergone specific training to prepare for this sensitive and complex environment with the aim of ensuring that no harm is caused to civilians used by Hamas as human shields (…) We call on all Hamas terrorists present at the hospital to surrender.”

On the al-Jazeera channel, the director of health services in the Gaza Strip said he was “inside” the hospital, where patients were, according to him, in a state of panic, and heard sounds of blast.

More than a month after the bloody attack launched by Hamas, which left around 1,200 dead, Israel launched a war to “eradicate” the terrorist group, in power in the Gaza Strip since 2007. She accuses him to hide in the heart of civilian sites, particularly hospitals.

The Israeli army thus considers that the Al-Shifa hospital is a key point because it would house strategic infrastructures of Hamas, which according to it uses the population and patients as “human shields”.

Hamas, which denies these accusations, reported 13 dead in a strike on the hospital complex on Friday. The Israeli army, which had not commented on these assertions, had simply indicated that one of its divisions was carrying out important operations in a “very very close” area. She said Friday that she would “kill” Hamas fighters “who fire from hospitals” in Gaza.

This Tuesday evening, Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari reiterated once again that “the continued use of Al-Shifa hospital for military purposes by Hamas would lead to the end of its protection against of international law”. And therefore, potentially, to military intervention.
