Ana Silvia Fernández Careaga is the daughter of Ana María Careaga, kidnapped at the age of 16 by the Argentine civil-military dictatorship. Her mother was three months pregnant. She was brutally tortured. Her grandmother, Esther Ballestrino de Careaga, went out to look for her daughter and in that search she met other mothers who, like her, were looking for her daughters and sons. They founded the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association. Thanks to her complaints and permanent mobilization, she managed to have Ana María freed and, through UNHCR, given refuge in Sweden where Ana Silvia was miraculously born despite the torture that she also received from her mother’s womb.

His grandmother Esther, Paraguayan, teacher, a woman of high ethical, moral and political values, decided to stay in Argentina and support the Mothers in searching for their detained-disappeared children.

Months later, when Ana María called from Sweden to announce the birth of Anita Silvia to her family, she learned that her mother Esther had also been kidnapped along with other mothers and two French nuns in the Church of the Holy Cross, in Buenos Aires, on the 8th. December 1977.

At the age of 59, she was tortured at the ESMA and thrown alive along with the other mothers and French nuns from the death flights. Her bodies appeared 28 years later, in July 2005.

They had been thrown alive, as their granddaughter Ana Silvia says, in the Buenos Aires metro (subway) to remind Argentines that the horror experienced today is embodied by the candidate Javier Milei.

His direct testimony just days before the second round of elections is a call to conscience for the Never more.
