The airline Sunwing Airlines will resume its operations from Canada to the airports of Cienfuegos and Manzanillo, Granma, in December, after several years.

The information was offered to the state newspaper Granma by the director of Ground Operations of the Cuban Company of Airports and Airport Services SA (ECASA), José Ramón Hernández.

In addition, the manager added that in that same month the Canadian airline Air Transat will begin flights from that country to Havana.

According to Hernández, in the current winter season more than 45 airlines plan to operate commercial flights to Cuba: 19 from Latin America and the Caribbean, 14 from Europe, four from Canada and one from Africa.

To complete this total, the airlines that operate from the US are added, of which the three charter and four regular airlines stand out: United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines that fly to the José Martí International Airport in Havana. .

In the case of American Airlines, it also does so to the airports of Varadero, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba, recalled the ECASA leader.

He also noted that nine other airlines continue to operate commercial cargo and luggage flights to the island.

Regarding the recent flights that have begun at the Havana airport, Hernández mentioned the airlines Boliviana de Aviación and Latam, who began operations to the island in October from Bolivia and Peru, respectively.

He also recalled that in the first week of this month of November, flights began to Varadero from Poland with the Spanish airline Plus Ultra, and to Santa Clara, from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, with the Spanish airline World2Fly.

Faced with this scenario, Cuba is experiencing several flight cancellations announced by airlines such as Iberojet and JetBlue.

The first of them will temporarily stop its operations to the island as of January 10, 2024, as reported this month by several Spanish travel agencies.

Viajes on time and other operators assured that Iberojet will paralyze its flights to Havana for a period of no less than six months, while sources close to the Spanish company told several media outlets that operations to the island would resume as of June 2024.

Iberojet had canceled its flights between Madrid and Santiago de Cuba since September due to low passenger demand for that destination.

For its part, the American airline JetBlue announced the suspension of all its flights to Cuba since last September 17, according to a statement shared by CNN journalist Patrick Oppmann.

In the text, the company assured that “the demand for travel to the island has been significantly affected by changes in the regulatory landscape and restrictions on the ability of our clients to enter Cuba.”
