The main pillars of Greek tourism’s strategic development aimed at strengthening its competitiveness, as well as innovative tools and appropriate actions in this direction, were the main topics analyzed during an event co-organized on Saturday, November 11, by SETE, INSETE and Marketing Greece in the context of the 38th international tourist exhibition Philoxenia.

During his speech, the Authorized Advisor of SETE, Mr. Alexandros Thanos pointed out that Greek tourism is facing new challenges and opportunities. In this context, SETE, based on the National Strategy for Tourism – Action Plans 2030, focuses on five main pillars of strategic development of the sector: investment, infrastructure, destination management, labor market and sustainability. At the same time, he underlined the importance of cooperation with Local Government and the private sector, adding that the Association with its operational arms, INSETE and Marketing Greece, work systematically to strengthen businesses and destinations.

In the context of the event, INSETE presented in pilot form the Greek Tourism Analytics Dashboard (GTAD) platform, which in its full development will be the first integrated data hub for Greek tourism. The Institute, in collaboration with the company Quantos and the APOPSI Group of Companies, is creating a modern and intelligent system of statistical data analysis from various sources, open data and big data that responds to individual needs for data, visualizes them and transforms them into accessible information for decision-making based on market data, for a range of business issues such as market segmentation, demand forecasting, optimization of marketing actions, investment planning, etc.

In addition, on this new platform, which will be launched in the next period of time, all the business intelligence tools of the Institute are integrated.

The Scientific Director of the Institute, Mr. Aris Ikkos, underlined that INSET systematically invests in the utilization of data for documented information, noting that the aim of the project is to create a space for data analysis and synthesis with multiple uses such as national, regional and local planning and supporting business activities.

In his pitch, he emphasized that GTAD is based on a complex and modern database and incorporates cutting-edge technology (e.g. application of Machine Learning Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence/AI), international data presentation standards, as well as the principles of full accessibility of the content by all users. A real-time demonstration of GTAD was carried out by Ms. Nymfodora – Maria Rautopoulou, Project Manager – Data Analyst of APOPSI Business Group, showcasing the “intelligent” user experience, personalized functionalities and the platform’s capabilities to produce optimized reports both in Greek and and in the English language.

The General Manager of Marketing Greece, Mr. Nikos Diamantopoulos, presenting the actions and initiatives planned and implemented by the company, emphasized the need to reposition the Greek tourism product, noting that “The challenges that Greek tourism is called to face are also those that will lead to his new era. It is requested to capitalize on the know-how that Greek tourism has acquired, to share knowledge, but also to join forces with everyone. This is the way to achieve our goals and to give Greek tourism the necessary impetus to move on to its next dynamic steps.”
