The Greensill scandal is haunting the new British Foreign Secretary, who once received millions as Lex Greensill’s chief lobbyist. His relations with China also raise questions.
The surprising return of former Prime Minister David Cameron to the London political stage has made international headlines. He brings a lot of political experience with him – but also “heavy baggage,” it is tellingly said in Westminster. There is not only his role in Brexit, for which he became the unintended midwife when he called the referendum in 2016.
His role as a highly paid lobbyist for the financier Lex Greensill in 2018 also casts a big shadow. This activity developed into one of the biggest lobbying scandals when the financial group imploded in 2021, leaving billions in shambles. Almost fifty German municipalities have also suffered losses of millions due to investments with the Greensill Bank in Bremen.
