The new high-speed fleet will be manufactured at Hitachi Rail’s facilities in Naples and Pistoia, near Florence. According to the planned plans, the first deliveries will begin in spring 2026, at a rate of between eight and ten trains per year. These thirty trains are planned to be incorporated to provide services mainly on the Italian high-speed network. However, they can also run in Europe, including lines of these characteristics in France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The new ETR1000 trains, which retain the main characteristics of those already in operation, will have state-of-the-art features and a renewed and even more functional design. This fleet will offer an updated interior and meet high comfort standards, such as an excellent level of soundproofing for quiet trips, adjustable LED lighting, ambient air conditioning, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, on-board monitors, Wi-Fi and power outlets for electronic devices.

Measurements

The units, two hundred meters long, will have capacity for 460 seated passengers and will have a coffee area on board. With an efficient weight/power ratio and great acceleration, they will be able to quickly reach the maximum speed of 350 km/h and reduce travel times. Almost all the materials used in its construction can be recovered for reuse.

The ETR1000s have been circulating in Spain for more than a year, and in France on the cross-border service between Paris and Milan since 2021. From 2010 to the present, 58 ETR1000s have been built for Trenitalia and the Ferrovie dello Stato group, and another six are in the pipeline. With the thirty additional trains included in this order, the number of trains produced will increase to 94.
