A new generation of drugs whose use is highly regulated and whose effectiveness is recognized

In recent years, a new generation of drugs (some already used for diabetes) has proven their effectiveness in weight loss in obese people. The benefit/risk balance is much better: weight loss of 15 to 20% and weight stabilization thereafter, side effects controlled, without risk of depression.

This is, for example, semaglutide (Wegovy), the effect of which is recognized by the High Authority for Health (HAS) which recommends its reimbursement if the Body Mass Index is greater than 35 kg/m. Certain past scandals call for caution, but today, the situation is very different: learned societies and health authorities approve the use of these treatments which must be monitored and supervised.
