V Calls for Around 30 Billion Extra for Healthcare

The country’s municipalities and regions are facing financial challenges, with significant budget deficits despite efforts to save. Carina Örgård, regional councilor for V in Västra Götaland, expressed concerns about the budget holes and proposed cutting certain expenses such as rewards for children and lactose-free food in the eating disorder unit.

A report from SKR in October projected a deficit of SEK 31 billion for the country’s municipalities and regions next year. In response, V is initiating an extra amendment budget “with significant additions” to primarily protect healthcare.

“We do not propose an exact amount. But SKR’s forecast with a hole of just over 30 billion gives an idea of the order of magnitude it must and should be about,” said Ali Esbati, V’s economic policy spokesperson.

The initiative from V comes as a response to the pressing need to address the growing budget deficits and protect the healthcare system. With the deficit expected to reach SEK 31 billion, V is calling for additional funding to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of healthcare services in the country.

The proposed amendment budget aims to allocate resources to fill the budget holes and prioritize healthcare, addressing the challenges faced by municipalities and regions. As the country grapples with financial strains, V’s initiative seeks to provide essential support to vital public services, particularly in the healthcare sector.
