Threads now allows you to delete a profile without canceling your Instagram account: this is how you can do it

Threads implemented a new “delete or deactivate profile” option to allow users to cancel their profile from the platform, without also having to delete their associated account from the Instagram social network.

As was known after the launch of Threads, which took place at the beginning of July, if you want to cancel an account on the new Meta social network, the Instagram account is also deleted.

This is because, although the microblogging platform is an independent application from Instagram, in order to create a new profile, it must be accessed through an existing account on the video and photo platform. In this way, it is easier to import the user’s profile into this new app and the accounts they follow.

Subsequently, the company led by Mark Zukerberg reported that they were working on a way for users to delete their Threads account independently.

Now, Instagram director Adam Mosseri announced that they have already made available to users a new option to “delete or deactivate the profile” of Threads without having to cancel the related Instagram account.

This was detailed by Mosseri in a post on Threads, in which he explained that to delete the profile it will be enough for users to access this option from their account settings.

On the other hand, Mosseri also shared that users will be able to have more control over the new feature that allows them to view Threads posts directly on Facebook and Instagram.

With this feature, Meta makes it easy for users to see Threads posts in the feed of their other platforms, without having to enter the microblogging app. In this way, the company aims to help users “expand their audience and increase their reach.”

However, according to the director of Instagram, users requested “more control” over this experience and, therefore, a way to “opt out of appearing outside of Threads” has been implemented with the ‘Suggest posts in other applications’ option, within the ‘Privacy’ tab in the settings menu.

Thus, users must check the boxes on Facebook and Instagram to prevent Threads posts from appearing on these social networks.
