He will not be present this Friday at the new “Saint-Denis meetings”. And he shoots his shots. LR boss Éric Ciotti accuses Emmanuel Macron of “feeding” the democratic crisis by “multiplying” initiatives outside the institutions, in an open letter of which AFP obtained a copy.

“You are the President of the French Republic and you must respect its institutions,” writes the deputy for Alpes-Maritimes, whose absence in Saint-Denis was decried by the head of state as “a political mistake” .

After having “granted the benefit of the doubt” during the first meetings organized on August 30, Éric Ciotti now refuses to be “the guarantor of a new sequence of narration which will achieve nothing”, castigating an “obsession with palaver with no future “.

The discussion “must be public”

“By multiplying initiatives outside the institutional field, you are helping to weaken them and fuel the crisis of democracy,” warns the head of the Republicans, who calls on the head of state to “make use” of the prerogatives granted to him by the Constitution.

The discussion “must be public, either in Parliament, where the people delegate their representatives, or directly with the people themselves by referendum”, adds the deputy for Alpes-Maritimes who asks the presidential majority to support the “revision proposal » that LR proposes to consult the people on immigration.

In addition to Éric Ciotti, Olivier Faure (Socialist Party) and Manuel Bompard (La France Insoumise) this time opted for the empty chair policy in Saint-Denis.

The Republicans will nevertheless be represented by the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, invited in the same capacity as the President of the Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet.
