Maersk has begun construction of a modern refrigerated warehouse in Rotterdam, which is expected to significantly improve its cold chain offering in the Netherlands and northwestern European markets. Spanning 40,000 square meters, this facility will be strategically located next to one of Europe’s most advanced terminals in Maasvlakte II, operated by APM Terminals.

“This proximity to the terminal, but also to our new cross-dock facility in Rotterdam, which will be operational in January 2024, allows us to offer simpler and more integrated supply chain solutions right in our logistics center in Rotterdam. That was one of the main criteria for its location and we hope it will also be a significant game changer for our cold chain customers,” explained Michel Blonk, Regional Director of Construction Projects for Europe at Maersk.

And the increase in demand for products that require storage at specific temperatures drives the need for specialized logistics. Therefore, the Rotterdam cold store is presented as the perfect solution to keep perishable products fresh and of maximum quality for longer, thus optimizing supply chains.

In addition to offering refrigerated container transportation, Maersk will provide refrigerated storage services, extending the life cycle of products and allowing customers to more effectively plan their supply chains.

Another project that Maersk has in hand is the launch of an innovative rail transport service that will connect the Port of Barcelona (Spain) with the southeast of France. This service will be operated in collaboration with Captrain and Naviland, through its subsidiary APM Spain Railways.
